Friends of Simsbury Farms: A Non-Profit Focused on Continuous Improvements and Enhancements
We (Simsbury) have a one of a kind facility whether you are a golfer, swimmer, participate in racquet sports and ice skating as well as a fitness trail, a children’s playscape and now two basketball courts. When you visit in the winter you may also see many sledders and cross country skiers as well as dedicated Paddle Ballers on a cold wintery evening.
In recent years, we helped fund four memorial benches for the golf course. Funding was provided for the Golf Course Superintendent to install two sod farms for greens and fairways. The Friends are helping to restore and replace many of the old ORKIL FARMS FRUIT TREES. Sixty new apple trees have replaced many that were diseased and presented a hazard. Last year, we funded Wireless Controllers for the Scoreboards at the Skating Rink, the installation of a Weather Station for the Golf Course irrigation system, the Pond Aerator for the 15th Hole, and comprehensive signage in the complex. We have funded a disease mitigation program for all of the apple and pear trees spread throughout the property. We were also able to fund the last project proposed in the Simsbury Farms Master Plan. Two new basketball courts have been constructed thanks to a generous donation from the McElroy family. Other major donors, as well, have brought significant improvements due to their overwhelming generosity, for which we are incredibly appreciative.
Additional projects, for consideration, can be brought to the attention of the Recreation Department and Golf Course Staff.
