We (Simsbury) have a one of a kind facility whether you are a golfer, swimmer, participate in racquet sports and ice skating as well as a fitness trail, a children’s playscape and now two basketball courts. When you visit in the winter you may also see many sledders and cross country skiers as well as dedicated Paddle Ballers on a cold wintery evening.
In the last three years, we helped fund four memorial benches for the golf course. Funding was provided for the Golf Course Superintendent to install two sod farms for greens and fairways. In 2017 we assisted the Kosher Family and the Town in the construction of the Picnic Pavilion at the tennis and paddle courts. The Friends are helping to restore and replace many of the old ORKIL FARMS FRUIT TREES. Sixty new apple trees have replaced many that were diseased and presented a hazard. Last year, we funded Wireless Controllers for the Scoreboards at the Skating Rink and the installation of a Weather Station for the Golf Course irrigation system as well as funding the Pond Aerator for the 15th Hole. We recently approved funding a disease mitigation program for all of the apple and pear trees spread throughout the property. We were also able to fund the last project proposed in the Simsbury Farms Master Plan. Two new basketball courts have been constructed thanks to a generous donation from the McElroy family.
Additional projects, for consideration, can be brought to the attention of the Recreation Department and Golf Course Staff.
The Purpose of Friends of the Farms is to provide a means by which citizens can make charitable donations or bequests to fund either capital or programing needsfor Simsbury Farms, which would not normally be available through the Town of Simsbury’s Budgeting for the Simsbury Farms Recreation Complex.
