History

The Simsbury Farms Recreation complex was originally a working Apple Orchard – Orkil Farms.  On December 8, 1968, the Town of Simsbury purchased Orkil Farms from Clyde Carter.  At the Town Meeting authorizing the purchase, more than 600 residents cast their ballot with only one no-vote recorded.  The Recreational Facility was a vision of town officials who had the foresight to acquire and develop an extraordinary opportunity for its citizens.  The financial transaction encompassed:

235 Acre Purchase          $800,000

Construction                    $1,777,860

The complex officially opened in August 1971. Since the opening many improvements have been made. The skating rink was expanded and covered in 1999. The Golf Club House and Restaurant was reconstructed in 2001. The Main Pool Building was rebuilt in 2013 and in 2016 the four tennis courts were rebuilt. The Golf Course has also been upgraded with a new bunker system and a new 2nd and 5th greens. Further upgrades to the course are scheduled for the next several years. The course has gained significant recognition from both the Connecticut State Golf Association and the United States Golf Association and will host the CSGA Senior Four Ball Championship in 2022 to Celebrate Simsbury Farms 50th Anniversary.
